What are the goals of this project?

This project aims to partner with local non-governmental organizations and assist underprivileged communities in their social and economic development.

Despite all the reforms, South Africa is still experiencing poverty. The youth unemployment rate, which is more than 60%, is alarming. We partner with non-governmental organizations to empower and support communities that are deeply affected by these issues.

This project seeks to correct the current imbalances by supporting local businesses. This is achieved by empowering women, men and youth in these communities through skills training and development. Your support is essential to reach as many people possible.

Measuring our impact

Projects work towards clear, long-term goals with annual targets. No matter how long they are with us, every volunteer or intern we send helps us achieve these goals.

We take a look back every year to see how far we have come towards these goals. The Global Impact Report documents our accomplishments. Read the most recent report to learn more about the global impact of our volunteers, interns, and staff.

Food and accommodation

Stay with a Cape Town host family. You will be welcomed into their home and will learn about their culture. This is the best way for you to fully immerse yourself into South Africa’s culture and experience a truly unforgettable experience.

We will try to allow you to live with at least one Projects Abroad intern or volunteer at the same host family. Your room will be small but clean and safe.

The programme fee includes three meals per day.

Freizeit activities and leisure time

South Africa is known as the Rainbow Nation. It has many cultures. The location of our projects is Cape Town. This region offers a wide range of exciting activities for your spare time.

There are two options: you can surf at Muizenberg Beach or you can relax at a beachside restaurant. You can try a variety of local cuisine, including the delicately spiced Cape Malay curries or the creamy milk tart dessert.

South Africa’s past is difficult. You can find out more at Robben Island and District 6 Museum.

You can spend the whole day lost in the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Arts Africa’s towering silos for an unforgettable experience. A trip to Cape Town is complete without a ride on the cable car up Table Mountain.

There are many projects we run in South Africa so you’re sure to find other volunteers. If you are looking to travel with others, you will find people like you who will join you on your adventure.
